Tikun Leil Shavuot- “Collapse of Conceptions”
In 2024, for the first time, under the auspices of the Koret Center, the School of Jewish Studies at Tel Aviv University and ANU, the museum hosted a large “Tikkun Shavuot ” event open to the public. In keeping with the spirit of the times and the growing discourse in Israel about collapsing conceptions that arose following the events of October 7th, we decided that this would be the theme of the evening. The topic of “Collapsing Conceptions” was raised after the Yom Kippur War, and yet again after October 7th. Approximately 250 people of various ages and backgrounds attended the event.
During the evening, more than twenty academics, cultural figures, and intellectuals shared both minor and major moments of revelation, confusion, and surprise with the wider audience. They discussed their own personal experiences with the collapse of their previous conceptions that new ideas that emerged in their place.
Among the lecturers and speakers were poet and author Maya Tevet Dayan, in conversation with author Shahara Blau about contemporary collapsing conceptions; cultural figure Roee Ravitzky, in a joint panel with author Noa Manheim and screenwriter Shuki Ben Naim discussing the cultural addiction to surprises and “plot twists”; Rabbi Benny Lau, head of Project 929, who spoke about the illusion of eternity among the land’s inhabitants; Regev Ben David, a doctoral student in Jewish Philosophy at Tel Aviv University, who talked in favor of confusion; Anat Dreamer, a poet, playwright, actress and spoken word artist who led a creative writing workshop; and, Dor Saar Man who reflected on self-doubting messiahs, from Sabbatai Zevi to Voldemort, among others.
