The October 7th War Civic Archive (O7WCA)
The 07WCA is an archive dedicated to preserving primary sources documenting Israeli civil society during the October 7th Hamas attack and the subsequent war, to support future research. Unlike official state collections, the archive focuses on the experiences, voices, and actions of ordinary citizens—many of whom may not have received public attention—preserving their stories and voices as valuable historical sources.
Founded by doctoral students at Tel Aviv University’s Zvi Yavetz School of Historical Studies, the archive is a developing collection of materials from Civil Society Organizations and focusing on underrepresented communities through an Oral History Collection. What sets this archive apart from official state collections is its focus on the experiences, voices, and actions of ordinary citizens. The archive values and ensures that a diverse population is included for a thorough and comprehensive historical record.
The Koret Center is a key partner and supporter of the O7WCA, providing financial backing and strategic guidance that enhance the archive’s impact. The Center funded the implementation of an advanced computing system (Omeka-S) at the Sourasky Central Library, ensuring long-term preservation and accessibility of the archive’s materials for future generations. Additionally, through scholarships, the Koret Center enables students from diverse backgrounds to contribute to the project, gaining hands-on experience while linking academic study with social action.
