The Hebrew Language Olympiad for Youth: A Growing Celebration of Language and Culture 2023
Launched in 2021, the Hebrew Language Olympiad has become a dynamic platform for young people to explore Hebrew through creative and challenging linguistic puzzles. This year, the Olympiad saw a 72% increase in participation, with 3,692 students from around the world competing in the first stage. The final ceremony was held at Tel Aviv University on June 21, 2024, and celebrated the winners with prominent figures including Tel Aviv University President Prof. Ariel Porat in attendance.
New tracks were introduced this year expanding the Olympiad’s global reach, including a Haredi District track and an international track for Israeli students abroad. Participants from locations like London, Frankfurt, Brazil, and the United States joined, further solidifying the Olympiad’s international appeal.
Through an exciting new partnership with Brandeis University’s Consortium for Hebrew Language and Culture Education, the Olympiad aims to invest in the next generation of Hebrew language enthusiasts. This collaboration will help nurture a global network of learners, celebrate Jewish cultural heritage, and strengthen connections to our shared identity worldwide. The Olympiad’s two-tier structure begins with an accessible online questionnaire, allowing students to participate from anywhere. Those who excel advance to the final stage at Tel Aviv University, where winners receive certificates, cash prizes, and scholarships, fostering academic growth and a deeper passion for Hebrew.
