Following the events of October 7th and the war, the Koret Center launched a series of virtual conferences aimed at offering an academic perspective on the new challenges facing Jewish communities worldwide.
The opening remarks of the first session, held on November 9, 2023, were delivered by Prof. Yuval Rotman and Prof. Oria Shavit. The session featured presentations by Prof. Ariel Dubnov from George Washington University; Dr. Mia Spiro from the University of Glasgow; Dr. Aleksandra Glizchinska-Grabias from the Polish Academy of Sciences; and Mr. Ronen Bakher, a leader of the Jewish community in Oslo.
Around 70 participants attended the conference, asking questions, sharing their feelings, and discussing the steps being taken within their communities as part of the effort to address the challenges of this period.
The second session, held on January 21, 2024, focused on Jewish communities in Latin America. It opened with remarks from Prof. Roni Stauber, head of the Diaspora Research Center at Tel Aviv University, and included presentations by Prof. Judit Bokser Liwrant from the University of Mexico; Dr. Valeria Navarro Rosenblatt from Universidad Diego Portales; Dr. Adrian Krupnik from the Minerva Center for Human Rights at Tel Aviv University; and Mr. Sergio Napchan from the Confederation of Jewish Communities of Brazil.
